DAY 1 – 10th OCTOBER 2025

The conference commenced with registration and an inaugural ceremony, marking the beginning of two days of academic exchange and dialogue. The inaugural address emphasized the growing importance of integrating homoeopathy into mental health services during times of crisis, focusing on the need for holistic and compassionate care for affected individuals and communities.

Session 1 

Healing in Chaos: Integrating Homoeopathy

The first technical session began with a keynote lecture by Dr. Dinesh R. S., who spoke on “Disaster Mental Health and the Role of Homoeopathy.” He discussed the psychological aftermath of disasters and highlighted the individualized, patient-centered approach of homoeopathy in managing trauma and anxiety. The session was chaired by Dr. K.R. Janardhan Nair, Former President, Medical Assessment Rating Board, National Commission for Homoeopathy, New Delhi.

Session 2

Real-Time Lessons in Psychiatric Crisis

This session included presentations by Dr. Thomas M. V. on “Psychiatric Emergencies in Disaster Zones – A Scientific Approach” and Dr. Jerald Jeyakumar A. on “Field Experience in Disaster Management: Homoeopathic Approach and Psychological Support.” Both speakers emphasized the need for preparedness, structured interventions, and compassionate care.
Sr. Regin Mary Mathew delivered a session on “Resilience in Crisis – Practical Insights from Disaster Response,” highlighting community-based psychological support and resilience-building strategies. The session was chaired by Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Reddy, Vice Principal, JSPS, Govt. Homoeopathic College, Hyderabad, Telangana.

Session 3

Quantifying the Mind

The afternoon session featured international speakers. Prof. Dr. Ubiratan Adler (Brazil) presented on “Homoeopathy as a Personalised Adjuvant Approach in Treating Major Depressive Disorder,” while Dr. Philippa Fibert (United Kingdom) spoke on “Design, Method and Conduct of Trials on ADHD with Homoeopathy.” Their lectures provided a global perspective on research methodologies and scientific validation of homoeopathic approaches in psychiatry. The session was chaired by  Dr. N.D. Mohan, MD(Psychiatry), Consultant, NHRIMH, Dr. Debadatta Nayak, Assistant Director(H)/Scientist -4, NHRIMH, Kottayam.

 

Post-graduate trainee dissertation presentations

11 Post Graduate Trainees of Department of Psychiatry, National Homoeopathy Research Institute In Mental Health, Kottayam presented their dissertation. Showcasing emerging research in the field of homoeopathic psychiatry.

Session 4

Decoding Minds Through Data

The day began with a presentation by Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sarangi from AIIMS, New Delhi, on “Biological Research in Psychiatry,” emphasizing advances in neurobiology and pharmacology that complement holistic perspectives. This was followed by a talk by Dr. Debadatta Nayak, Assistant Director (H)/Scientist-4, NHRIMH, on “Exploring the Mind: Methodological Insights and Design Frameworks.” The session was chaired by Dr. Radhakrishnan E. K., Associate Professor, School of Biosciences, MG University.

Session 5

Mental Mayday: Rapid Response

Dr. Varghese P. Punnoose, Principal and Professor of Psychiatry, Government Medical College, Kottayam, delivered a lecture on “Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.” He discussed the current challenges in mental health service delivery and emphasized intersectoral collaboration. Dr. N. D. Mohan followed with a presentation on “Emergencies in Psychiatry,” outlining clinical management strategies for acute psychiatric conditions. The session was chaired by Dr. S. Gopinathan, Former Assistant Director(H), NHRIMH, Kottayam

Session 6

Success Stories of Homoeopathic Management in Psychiatry

The concluding scientific session featured a series of evidence-based presentations from NHRIMH faculty members:

  • Management of Acute Substance Withdrawal: Integrating Homoeopathy with Standard Care – Dr. K. Shiva Kumar

The session was chaired by Dr. Indira Balachandran, Former Assistant Director (H), NHRIMH, Kottayam.

Post-graduate trainee dissertation presentations

Additionally, 13 postgraduate trainees from the Department of Medicine, National Homoeopathy Research Institute In Mental Health, Kottayam presented their dissertation studies.

Valedictory Session

The two-day conference concluded with a valedictory session coordinated by Dr. Xinix Xavier, Research Officer (Scientist-1). Reflections were shared by participants, followed by concluding remarks from Dr. Debadatta Nayak, Assistant Director (H), NHRIMH. Certificates were distributed to participants, and the e-magazine of the Homoeopathic Psychiatric Association was officially released. The event concluded with the National Anthem.

Conclusion

The National Homoeopathy Conference served as an academic forum for knowledge exchange and collaboration in the field of mental health care during disasters and emergencies. The discussions emphasized the significance of integrating homoeopathic principles with conventional psychiatry, promoting evidence-based practice, accessibility, and preparedness. The event reinforced the commitment of NHRIMH, Kottayam, to advancing research and clinical excellence in homoeopathic mental health care.
